New to Brazilian Jiujitsu? Here’s Where to Start
Walking into a Brazilian Jiujitsu academy for the first time can feel like walking into a conversation in a language you don’t speak. Everyone seems to know what they’re doing, the terms are unfamiliar, and you’re not sure where to stand, let alone what to do with your hands. If that sounds like you, you’re in good company. Almost everyone who trains has felt exactly the same way on day one.
How it used to be
When I first started training, there weren’t many options for beginners. You either trained alongside people who were already experienced, or you didn’t train at all. There was no gentle intro and no one to walk you through the basics.
Looking back, what would have helped me most was a course built for brand-new people: one that showed me the basic movements, the basic positions, and the essentials that everyone new to Jiujitsu needs to know before they can really start enjoying it.
So we built the course I wish I’d had
That’s exactly why we created our Fundamentals Course. It’s a 4-week intensive programme with two classes a week, designed for complete beginners with no Brazilian Jiujitsu experience. It focuses on the basic techniques, positions and principles that everything else is built on.

Fundamentals Course · £150 4-week intensive · 2 classes a week · No experience needed Includes a Premium White Gi and your first year's Annual Membership |
Why start with us?
There are plenty of places to train, so here are three reasons beginners choose to begin their Jiujitsu journey with us:
You learn the fundamentals first. Instead of being dropped into a class and left to figure it out, you follow a clear, structured path through the core techniques, positions and principles. By the end of the four weeks, the language and movements of Jiujitsu will make sense.
You start alongside other beginners. Nobody in the Fundamentals Course is expected to know anything already. You learn at a beginner’s pace, in a room full of people who are just as new as you are, which takes away a lot of the nerves of that first class.
Everything you need is included. The £150 covers your Premium White Gi and your first year’s Annual Membership, so there’s no scramble to buy kit or work out what else you need. You turn up, train and focus on learning.

What happens after the four weeks?
Once you’ve completed the Fundamentals Course, you’re ready to join our All Levels and Nogi classes. You’ll arrive with a solid grounding in the basics and the confidence to train alongside the rest of the academy.
